Our Story
The South Canterbury Pottery Group (Inc) was founded in 1966. In 1972, enthusiastic members took the bold step of buying their own property at 17 White St, Timaru.
Equipment slowly grew from one kick wheel to 8 electric wheels, while hand-tools of every variety were added.
In time, a large workroom, kitchen and lounge were built. An older brick outbuilding houses the electric kilns, clay and glaze storage. A paved courtyard is an ideal venue for raku firings - usually accompanied by a "pot-luck" luncheon and get-together in the lounge.
Club membership now includes potters whose skills and experience are recognised nationally, and those just discovering the joys and satisfaction of creating with clay.
As well as raku days, the club's activities include tutored classes, demonstrations and workshops, and the annual exhibition held at Timaru's renowned Aigantighe Art Gallery. What does South Canterbury Pottery Group offer?
